Which languages do AI glasses actually speak? Checked model by model

Every pair of AI glasses claims to support "dozens of languages". Few say which ones, and none say what you lose when you step outside English.

We went through each manufacturer's official documentation, help centres and published reviews to answer two questions that spec sheets dodge: does English get you the full experience — and what happens with every other language?

The short answer: English is the first-class citizen on every Western model, the gap to other languages is bigger than any manufacturer admits, and on the Chinese-market models even English barely works.

The summary, if you're in a hurry

The uncomfortable truth: region matters more than language

Here is the part most English-language coverage skips, because it is written from the United States.

Meta's own help centre states that when you use Meta AI in languages other than English, a Wi-Fi connection is required — including for voice commands that capture images — and that "some features may have longer response times or may not be available". That is Meta, in writing, telling you the product is thinner outside English.

But even in perfect English, where you live decides what you get. Visual AI reached the EU only in April 2025, and cut down: single questions about your surroundings. Live AI — the continuous, interruptible conversation you see in American demo videos — remains exclusive to the United States and Canada. The 2026 additions (nutrition tracking, WhatsApp summaries, pedestrian navigation) shipped US-first, and some US-only.

So if you are reading this from the UK or Ireland: your English is not the problem. Your postcode is. Half of what the American videos show does not exist in Europe yet, in any language.

Ray-Ban Meta: the best English, with an asterisk per region

In English, in the US, the experience is the full one — that is the version every launch review describes. In English in Europe, you lose Live AI and get the trimmed visual AI. Live translation covers 6 languages on the Gen 2 (English, French, Italian, Spanish, plus hindi, and others arriving through early access), against roughly 70 for Google Translate; the newer Meta Glasses line raises that to 14 languages. Translation works offline if you download language packs first.

Even Realities G2: the only maker that shows its homework

Of every brand we reviewed, Even Realities is the only one that publishes what each language can actually do. Not a global number — a per-function list:

• Voice recognition (Conversate): 20 languages, list published
• Translation: around 35 languages, list published
• Even AI: 30+ voice languages, with call features documented in English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Chinese and Japanese

It is published, you can check it before buying, and that alone puts them ahead of everyone else on this page. The G2 is a different kind of product — $599, no camera, no speakers, monochrome display — so it is not for everyone. But on language transparency, nobody else comes close.

RayNeo: confirmed on the X3 Pro, pending on the iO

The X3 Pro publishes its 14 text and audio translation languages: Chinese, English, Cantonese, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Japanese, Korean, Russian, Thai, Vietnamese, Indonesian and Malay. Its assistant runs on Google Gemini.

The iO, launched September 4, uses Timekettle BabelOS 3.0: 55 languages, 109 accents, around one second of latency. Timekettle is a translation specialist, which is a good sign — but RayNeo has not published the list of 55. For English that is academic; for anything else, ask before you pay.

Rokid and INMO: big numbers, missing lists

Rokid claims translation across 89 languages and an interface in 13. We asked them directly: their customer service confirmed Spanish and German to us in writing on 31 August 2026. INMO claims 98 languages on the GO3, with ChatGPT and Gemini on board.

Neither publishes the full list. And keep one distinction in mind: translating into a language is not the same as understanding commands in it. A maker can support 89 translation languages and 5 voice-interaction languages. Press releases blur the two constantly.

The ones that fail even in English: Xiaomi, Huawei, Baidu

Xiaomi AI Glasses. The assistant, Hyper XiaoAI, defaults to Mandarin. English recognition is inconsistent, translation quality degrades if you force the setup through a VPN — and before language even comes up, the app requires a Chinese phone number to register.

Huawei AI Glasses. The clearest testimony comes from a hands-on in China: "XiaoYi only speaks Chinese." It understands English questions but answers in Mandarin. Live translation is multilingual, weaker on Latin languages.

Baidu Xiaodu Pro. Promoted explicitly as the first glasses with a native Chinese model, Ernie. Built for the Chinese market.

None of the three is sold officially in Europe, so the language problem stacks on top of warranty and CE-marking problems. We mention them because they keep appearing in "best AI glasses" lists written without checking anything.

Four questions to ask before you buy

1. Does the assistant answer in my language, or only translate into it? Different features.
2. Is the language list published? A number without a list is marketing, not data.
3. Do I lose features outside English? On Ray-Ban Meta, yes — officially.
4. Which features exist in my region at all? The US–Europe gap is bigger than any language gap.

If the manufacturer cannot answer these four in writing, assume the worst.

Do Ray-Ban Meta glasses work fully in English? Yes — English is the reference language. But features are region-gated: Live AI and several 2026 additions are US/Canada-only, whatever language you speak.

Why do Meta's glasses have fewer features in Europe? Meta has attributed the limits to European laws on what an AI may see and hear. Visual AI reached the EU in April 2025 in reduced form, and Live AI still has not.

Does translation work offline? On Ray-Ban Meta, yes, if you download the language packs first. Using the AI itself outside English, however, officially requires Wi-Fi.
